7 Signs Your Body Needs Better Hydration
1 de mayo de 2026
Dehydration doesn't always feel like extreme thirst. Often the body sends subtler signals we tend to ignore or attribute to other causes. Here are the 7 most common symptoms of poor hydration.
1. Constant fatigue with no apparent cause
When cells don't have enough water, energy production decreases. If you feel tired even after sleeping well, your hydration level is the first place to look.
2. Frequent headaches
The brain is 75% water. When hydration drops, brain tissue contracts slightly, pulling on the meninges and causing pain. Before reaching for a painkiller, drink two glasses of water and wait 20 minutes.
3. Dull or dry skin
Skin is the body's largest organ and one of the first to show lack of hydration. If your skin looks dull, has less elasticity, or feels tight, your body needs more and better-quality water.
4. Digestive problems
Constipation is a classic sign of dehydration. The colon absorbs water from intestinal contents; without enough, stools become hard and difficult to pass. Ionized alkaline water can improve intestinal motility thanks to its antioxidant properties.
5. Difficulty concentrating
Studies show that dehydration of just 1–2% of body weight significantly reduces cognitive function, short-term memory, and attention span.
6. Dark urine
Urine color is the easiest hydration indicator. It should be pale yellow or nearly clear. If it's dark yellow or has a strong odor, you need to increase your water intake.
7. Muscle cramps
Muscles need water to function properly. Dehydration disrupts the electrolyte balance and causes involuntary contractions. If you have frequent cramps, especially at night, check your hydration and the quality of water you consume.
The good news is that improving the quality of water you drink can make a noticeable difference within weeks. Ionized alkaline water, with a pH between 8 and 9.5, is absorbed more efficiently at the cellular level, hydrating better with less volume.
